We show you a special command you can use to quickly and easily fix your external hard drive if it is not showing or can’t be reformatted on your Mac computer. If Disk Utility is not working to reformat the drive, this command WILL work for you! Great fix for SD Cards, flash drives and all other external hard drives that are not working with your Mac system!
TERMINAL COMMAND: diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ Backup /dev/disk2
JHFS+ = Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, used specifically with Mac computers. Allows your external drive to freely read and write files from and to your Mac computer and is also the format needed if you wish to use Time Machine to backup your entire Mac.
JHFS = Mac OS Extended format, same as JHFS+ but with less security when reading and writing files.
FAT32 = FAT32 format which allows files to be read / written to Windows and Mac computers. Perfect format to choose if you plan to use this external drive with multiple computers or if needed to work with a specific device.
